Forum to give information on the Friends of Moku'ulaThe Maui News LAHAINA - An informational forum to learn about the Friends of Moku'ula Inc.'s new educational program will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday in the King Kamehameha III Elementary School cafeteria. Funded by a $30,000 grant from the Hawai'i Tourism Authority, the Friends' Ka 'I'imi 'Ike program brings schoolchildren to the historic site in Lahaina to observe during the excavation and archaeological data recovery process at Moku'ula. The program also educates visitors on authentic Hawaiian culture. The Friends of Moku'ula aims to preserve, protect and restore the scared site of Moku'ula. It was the historic home of King Kamehameha III and the site of a mausoleum containing the remains of the royal family. The archaeological data recovery process will be conducted by Maui Community College as a field school (for credit) during the summer and fall 2009 sessions. Community elders, residents and interested visitors are welcomed to participate. To register for the forum, call 661-3659 or send e-mail to programs@mokuula.com.
