Friends of Moku‘ula, Inc. was awarded $30,000 from HTA’s KUKULU OLA - Living Hawaiian Culture program for it’s 2009/2010, Ka ‘I ‘imi ‘Ike program. The goal of this program is to continue the historical preservation and restoration work at Moku‘ula by initiating further archaeological data recovery and implementing an educational visitor activity centered around the archaeological excavation. The archaeological data recovery effort will be conducted as a Spring Semester Field School operated by University of Hawai'i-Maui Community College. The visitor activity, which is open to both residents and tourists, will be organized by Friends of Moku‘ula and its partner, Maui Nei Native Expeditions. Ka ‘I‘imi ‘Ike, will further advance the mission of Friends of Moku‘ula and the HTA’s Strategic Plan goal to honor and perpetuate the Hawaiian culture and community. If you are interested in participating, please contact the Friends of Moku‘ula Programs Coordinator at 661-3659. Field School applicants may contact Janet Six at MCC 984-3670. Visit our new project blog for regular updates, photos and videos of the program throughout the year.
