LAHAINA – Friends of Moku'ula Inc. invites the community to attend an informational forum to learn about Ka 'I'imi 'Ike, the cultural organization's 2009 Hawaii Tourism Authority Kukulu Ola-Living Hawaiian Culture Program, and to share their thoughts about the future of the Moku'ula restoration project.

The forum will be held Friday, April 3, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the King Kamehameha III Elementary School Cafeteria at 611 Front St. in Lahaina.

Hawaii Tourism Authority recently awarded Friends of Moku'ula Inc. (FOM) with a grant for Ka 'I'imi 'Ike, which was designed to benefit keiki by hosting field study trips for students during the excavation and archaeological data recovery process and educating visitors on authentic Hawaiian culture.

FOM aims to further its mission to preserve, protect and restore the sacred site of Moku'ula through this program, which will also launch new visitor activity and beautify the site.

The archaeological data recovery will be operated by University of Hawaii-Maui Community College as a Field School (for credit) during the summer and fall of 2009. Community elders, residents and interested visitors are welcome to participate.

More forums will be held on the project, including one at Maui Community College.

Call Friends of Moku'ula Inc. at 661-3659 or e-mail programs@mokuula.com to register for attendance; light refreshments will be served.

Free parking is available in the school parking lot off Front Street and across the street in the county lot along Prison Street.
